James Worthy: Here’s your chance to have a Lakers championship ring
The great Bill Sharman is raffling off his 2010 NBA championship ring from the Lakers’ 4-3 finals win over the Boston Celtics.
All proceeds from Bill’s Ring of Hope raffle will be going to charity. In addition to the ring, you will also receive a pair of tickets to a game (2013-2014 Season), up to $4,000 in travel expenses and $8,146.25 in cash to be paid to the Internal Revenue Service and Commonwealth of Massachusetts (to offset the tax liability).
Former Lakers coach Sharman, who was named one of the NBA’s 50 best players of all-time, was also a teammate of Bob Cousy, in what some consider the greatest backcourt duo of all time. He is one of just three people to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach. In the 1971-72 season, he guided the Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West-led Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA record 33 game win streak, and to the first Lakers championship in more than a decade. He was also named NBA Coach of the Year. Coach Sharman is one of two men to win NBA and ABA championships as a coach.
Tickets cost $2 each with a minimum purchase of five ($10 overall). The raffle ends Nov. 22. With just $10 you can you can own a piece of Lakers history. (As long as your number is drawn).
Sharman is teaming up with NetRaffle.org by Celebrities For Charity in this endeavor, the same organization that helped Metta World Peace auction off his 2010 championship ring which raised money for mental-health awareness.
The proceeds will benefit a slew of charities including the James Worthy Foundation. The James Worthy Foundation’s mission is to help at-risk youth, military veterans and their communities.
Proceeds will also benefit: Toberman Neighborhood Center, Angel’s Nest, Public Counsel, Lakers Youth Foundation, Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation, West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation and Xcel University.
